Basketball Recap: Papillion-LaVista Comes Up Short

After flying high against Columbus last Wednesday, Papillion-LaVista came back down to earth. The Papillion-LaVista Monarchs came up short against the Millard North Mustangs on Friday, falling 61-39. The Monarchs have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Papillion-LaVista still got an impressive performance from Rease Murtaugh, who posted 19 points and five rebounds. Murtaugh has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more points the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ciara Poitier, who put up five points.

Avril Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Millard North, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Clara Welker was another key player, going 7-for-10 en route to 15 points.

Papillion-LaVista's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Millard North, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season.
