Basketball Recap: Varela Takes a Loss

Varela lost against Braddock back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Varela Vipers fell 61-49 to the Braddock Bulldogs. The Vipers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Varela still got an impressive performance from Alex Perez, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Perez a new career-high in blocks (two). Aaron Reyes was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Braddock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luca De La Paz led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. De La Paz is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Figueroa, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Varela's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Braddock, they pushed their record up to 9-13 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Varela has already played their next contest, a 75-45 win against Killian on the 28th. As for Braddock, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 66-53 loss against Central on the 28th.
