Football Preview: Belton Tigers vs. University Trojans
Belton is 4-0 against University since August of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Belton Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the University Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Belton will come in still looking for their first win of the season.
Last Thursday, Belton lost to Ellison on the road by a 38-19 margin.
Although Belton took the loss, they still got scores from Josiah Martinez, Gino Zecca, and Kegan Sherwood.
Even if they lost, Belton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jacob Lewis and Sebastian Magana, who racked up all four sacks between them. Magana also set a new season high mark in total tackles with ten.
Meanwhile, University and Rudder met for a duel on Friday where University couldn't get it done. University wound up with the same score they had in their last game (28-21), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Despite the loss, University got top-tier performance from London Smith, who picked up 183 receiving yards and a touchdown.
University didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Armani Franklin and Jeremiah Green. Franklin is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last 16 games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Rudder's side was Joaquin Martinez, who picked up a sack and made 13 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Belton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for University, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
