Soccer Game Preview: Monterey vs. Smith County

The Monterey Wildcats will face off against the Smith County Owls at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Monterey took a four-goal defeat the last time they faced off against Jackson County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats won by a goal and slipped past the Blue Devils 2-1.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last game, Smith County made sure to put some goals up on the board against York Institute on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 5-1 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 3-0.

Monterey's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-5-1. As for Smith County, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10-1.

Monterey might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Smith County when the teams last played back in April. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
