Basketball Game Preview: Highland Park Scots vs. Atchison Phoenix

The Highland Park Scots will square off against the Atchison Phoenix at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Atchison will be up against a hot Highland Park team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. Highland Park beat Schlagle on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 79-11. The Scots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.

Highland Park found their leader in sophomore Pearmella Carter, who went 9-for-13 on her way to 20 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The game was Carter's 14th in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ciara Hartz, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 12 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Atchison against Harmon on Friday as the team secured a 52-15 win. That looming 52-15 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Phoenix yet this season.

Highland Park pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.3 points over those games. As for Atchison, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season.

Everything went Highland Park's way against Atchison when the teams last played back in January, as Highland Park made off with a 61-38 win. Does Highland Park have another victory up their sleeve, or will Atchison turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
