Baseball Recap: Geneva County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Poplar Springs last Friday, Geneva County came back down to earth. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Slocomb Red Tops by a score of 8-6 on Monday. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Red Tops recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Geneva County got a good showing from Brayden West, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. West has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Braxton Thames was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Geneva County's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't). James Wright was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Geneva County's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Slocomb, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9.

As of now, neither Geneva County nor the Red Tops have any future games scheduled.
