The Millington Cardinals will take on the Sandusky Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Millington is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Millington's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over New Lothrop. The three-run effort marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sandusky). They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Capac on Friday. With that win, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Peyton Bowerman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He also brought in three RBI, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Nathan Ball was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Daniel Tovar, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Sandusky always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Sandusky and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Millington, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Millington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 10 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sandusky struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Millington came out on top in a nail-biter against Sandusky in their previous matchup back in April of 2021, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
