Baseball Game Preview: Grove City Christian Eagles vs. Berne Union Rockets

Grove City Christian hasn't had much luck against Berne Union recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Rockets at 5:15 p.m. Neither Grove City Christian nor Berne Union posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

On Tuesday, Grove City Christian came up short against Fairfield Christian Academy and fell 5-1.

Jeff Collins was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Collins was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Collins wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jadunn Harris, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Eli Curry also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Berne Union's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fairfield Christian Academy on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Rockets in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost four in a row.

Having lost for the first time this season, Berne Union fell to 3-1. As for Grove City Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Grove City Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berne Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Grove City Christian beat Berne Union 11-7 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
