Football Recap: Burns Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Burns unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by the Crest Chargers and fell 55-14. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Chargers are ranked 20th).

Despite the loss, Burns still got an impressive performance from Drew Dixon, who rushed for 80 yards and one score.

Ely Hamrick went supernova For Crest., throwing for 384 yards and three TDs while completing 78.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 40 yards and one touchdown. Those three passing touchdowns gave Hamrick a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Namajay Thompson, who picked up 163 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Burns didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 40-34 loss against Kings Mountain on the 29th. As for Crest, they have also already played their next contest, a 31-24 victory against Shelby on the 29th.
