Basketball Recap: Rocky River Comes Up Short

Rocky River and Northern Guilford squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Rocky River had to settle for second. The matchup between the Rocky River Ravens and the Northern Guilford Nighthawks didn't end well, with the Rocky River Ravens falling 48-31. The Ravens have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Rocky River lost, don't look at MaKenzie Michael. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards. Michael is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tristin Jarrett, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, Rocky River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 16 consecutive games.

Leading Northern Guilford to victory were Leena McField and Malena DeLisa. McField dropped a double-double with 21 points and ten rebounds, while DeLisa put up five points along with 11 steals and seven assists. The dominant performance gave DeLisa a new career-high in steals. Olivia Bayer was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Rocky River's record is now 17-9. As for Northern Guilford, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Rocky River does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northern Guilford, they will welcome Charlotte Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northern Guilford is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season.
