Softball Recap: Midland Snags 16th Victory in Last 17 Games

Midland barely beat Permian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Midland Bulldogs put the hurt on the Permian Panthers with a sharp 12-2 victory on Tuesday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.

Malayah Carillo tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Midland got a massive performance out of Avrey Ochoa, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Ochoa has posted over her last 12 matches. Ryleigh Thiebaud was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Midland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. Permian is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-8-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midland will face off against San Angelo Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Midland's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so San Angelo Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Permian, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Permian Panthers face off against Frenship Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Frenship will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
