Softball Game Preview: Flowing Wells Caballeros vs. Buena Colts

For the second straight game, Flowing Wells will face off against Buena. The Caballeros will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Colts at 4:00 p.m.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Flowing Wells and Buena have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Caballeros took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colts.

For Buena's part, Ariella Antemann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 13 hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kallie Sturdevant, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Yanissa Long, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Buena hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win (which was Buena's third in a row) raised their record to 8-18. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Flowing Wells, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-16.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Flowing Wells hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Buena struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
