Volleyball Game Preview: Berkeley Yellowjackets vs. Castro Valley Trojans

Berkeley is 2-8 against Castro Valley since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will host the Trojans at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Berkeley duked it out with Alameda in a bug-themed battle on Thursday. The Yellowjackets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hornets, sneaking past 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won five in a row.

Berkeley was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18, 15-11.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Castro Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They blew past Piedmont 3-0 on Thursday.

While Castro Valley might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Piedmont scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-22, 25-22.

Castro Valley's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Berkeley, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Berkeley came up short against Castro Valley when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 3-1. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
