Baseball Recap: Highlands Ranch Comes Up Short

Highlands Ranch extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 3-12. They lost 10-2 to the Castle View Sabercats. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sabercats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Loris Boutille made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

As for Castle View, their win bumped their record up to 6-10. That eight-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Castle View's side, Cole Cates made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cates also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Castle View is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Cates was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other pitching news, Castle View got a great performance from Paxton Mapes as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Breck Johnson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those runs were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Feldhake, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Highlands Ranch will be playing at home against Rock Canyon at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Castle View, they will venture away from home to take on Chaparral at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
