Baseball Game Preview: Vinton County Vikings vs. Trimble Tomcats

Vinton County hasn't had much luck against Trimble recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Vikings will square off against the Tomcats at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Vinton County was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Wellston on Friday. The Vikings blew past the Golden Rockets 10-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Wyatt Channell made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Channell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, Jase Moore was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was David Northam, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Vinton County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Trimble waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They skirted past the Tornadoes 11-9.

Vinton County now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Trimble, their record now sits at 7-3.
