League recap: Hill races to league-leading run for Douglas County West

Douglas County West's Taylor Hill rumbled for the longest rushing play in C1 District 1 this season in his game against Lincoln Lutheran last week. Hill's team fell to the Warriors as he sprinted for 71 yards on the play and finished with 109 in all.

Boys Town lost to Pierce 48-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Telvin Davis ran for 96 yards in the loss.

Fort Calhoun's dynamic duo of Riley Grosse-Rhode and Tyler Pace proved tough for Wahoo to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Grosse-Rhode threw for 129 yards and Pace had 52 yards receiving.

Jonathan Smailys was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 178 yards on 45 carries as Arlington lost to the Warriors. Teammate Ross Miller added to the ground attack by rushing for 118 yards.

Smailys was a passing and rushing force as the Eagles fell to Lincoln Christian.

Spencer Shull was a key player and the best on defense this week as Fort Calhoun fell to Wahoo. He.

The Pioneers' Grosse-Rhode and Shull have formed a dream team this season, leading C1 District 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Grosse-Rhode has thrown for 289 yards this season, while Shull has 5 catches for 122 yards. Smailys from Arlington leads the league in rushing with 287 yards.

Steven Gubbels' team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,257 from 7,413. The improvement was the result of 32-26 victory over the Eagles last week.
