Basketball Recap: Thomas Heyward Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Marlie Needham and Ella Hunter

Thomas Heyward Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 47-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2019.

Ella Hunter and Marlie Needham certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Hunter dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Needham posted 13 points. Those 12 points gave Hunter a new career-high.

Thomas Heyward Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Jefferson Davis Academy, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Colleton Prep Academy the next time they take the court. Jefferson Davis Academy will head out to face Colleton Prep Academy at 6:15 p.m. on January 7th, while Thomas Heyward Academy will host them at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th.
