Softball Game Preview: Hesperia Scorpions vs. Serrano Diamondbacks

Hesperia is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Serrano a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Hesperia Scorpions will welcome the Serrano Diamondbacks at 3:15 p.m. Hesperia has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hesperia might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-2 to Oak Hills, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Serrano and Burroughs, and Serrano kept the tradition alive. The Diamondbacks put the hurt on the Burros with a sharp 13-1 win on Wednesday. The Diamondbacks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Lexi Escalera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wendy Arauz, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aila Berlanga, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Serrano was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burroughs only posted a batting average of .143.

Serrano's victory bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Hesperia, their loss dropped their record down to 14-14.
