Basketball Recap: Mohave Accelerated Takes a Loss

After flying high against Trivium Prep last Tuesday, Mohave Accelerated came back down to earth. The Mohave Accelerated Patriots lost 85-63 to the Needles Mustangs on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 177th in Arizona, while the Mustangs are ranked 15th in California).

It was another big night for Darrell Russell, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 16 rebounds for Needles. The dominant performance gave Russell a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Mills, who posted 19 points along with seven assists and six boards.

Mohave Accelerated's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Needles, the win keeps them at an undefeated 22-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mohave Accelerated won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wickenburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mohave Accelerated is facing Wickenburg at the right time seeing as Wickenburg is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Needles, they will head out to face off against GV Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
