Gila Ridge lost to Independence back in November of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Gila Ridge Hawks came out on top against the Independence Patriots by a score of 14-7.
Defeat or not, Independence got some senior leadership from Armani Cruz and Collynn Yarahuan. Cruz threw for 192 yards and a touchdown, while Yarahuan picked up 102 receiving yards and a touchdown. Those 102 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Yarahuan. Independence also got a significant boost from Chance Ogle, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.
The win got Gila Ridge back to even at 5-5. As for Independence, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.
