Recap: Northeast Vikings vs. Frankford Pioneers
The Northeast Vikings came tearing into Monday's contest with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Frankford 63-49. Given Northeast's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Frankford is ranked 463rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Michael Freeman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 23 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyree Williams, who scored 11 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Despite the defeat, Frankford saw an underclassman step up: Doron Ross scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Ross continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Zaire Washington was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Northeast's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. As for Frankford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.
Northeast will be playing in front of their home fans against Olney at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Frankford, they will head out on the road to face off against Boys' Latin Charter at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
