Basketball Recap: Iliana Dorvilus' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Colonial over Oak Ridge

Colonial fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Oak Ridge on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Oak Ridge Pioneers by a score of 57-54. The Grenadiers were up 31-11 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Colonial's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iliana Dorvilus, who went 5 for 6 on her way to 12 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Yaneyla Pedraza, who posted 12 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Leading Oak Ridge to victory were Khalise Vidal and Timberlynn Campbell. Vidal went 8 of 15 en route to 25 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists, while Campbell went 8 for 13 on her way to 21 points and four steals. Vidal is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 36 games she's played dating back to last season. Sarah Jean was another key player, putting up five points and eight boards.

Colonial is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11. As for Oak Ridge, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Colonial wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-2 win against Windermere on the 21st. As for Oak Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 41-40 victory against Northwestern on the 18th.
