Softball Game Preview: Mahanoy Area Golden Bears vs. Pottsville Crimson Tide

The Mahanoy Area Golden Bears will head out to face off against the Pottsville Crimson Tide at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Mahanoy Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Mahanoy Area took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Panther Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Golden Bears won by a run and slipped past the Panthers 7-6. The victory was nothing new for the Golden Bears as they're now sitting on three straight.

Lilly Carl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Hailey Mroczka and Naomi Kowalick did most of the damage at the plate: Mroczka went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Kowalick went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Mroczka has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Allison Killian, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Pottsville fell victim to North Schuylkill and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 15-0 to the Spartans. The Crimson Tide have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Mahanoy Area's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Pottsville, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Mahanoy Area suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Pottsville in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Golden Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
