Softball Recap: Del Norte Takes a Loss

Del Norte dropped their record down to 10-8-1 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Mission Hills Grizzlies by a score of 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Nighthawks have lost by just one run.

Lainey LLamas was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Alexis Kyles was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

As for Mission Hills, they now have a winning record of 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Del Norte since May 28, 2021.

On Mission Hills' side, Oloa Motas made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Motas has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Addison Russell was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lillian Sengsouly, who went 2-for-5 with two runs.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Del Norte is set to challenge their familiar foe San Marcos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mission Hills will face off against rival Poway at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Grizzlies 3.8, the Titans 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
