Baseball Recap: Smithfield-Selma Comes Up Short at Home Against Knightdale

Smithfield-Selma unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 17-6 to the Knightdale Knights on Tuesday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it 17 in a row.

Gabe Evans and Blake Thigpen did some serious damage despite the final result: Evans scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2, while Thigpen scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield-Selma will venture away from home to face off against Hobbton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Knightdale, they will head out to take on Middle Creek at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
