Basketball Recap: Teagan Leonard Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Riverton Parke

North Vermillion won the last time they faced Riverton Parke and things went their way on Friday too. The North Vermillion Falcons took down the Riverton Parke Panthers 74-58. The Falcons pushed the score to 63-40 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Vermillion to victory, but perhaps none more so than Teagan Leonard, who went 8-for-17 en route to 24 points and five assists. The contest was Leonard's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Dawson, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 24 boards.

North Vermillion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.

Despite the loss, Riverton Parke saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jonah Hopkins went 9-for-15 on his way to 24 points. Hopkins is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ben Todd, who posted six points.

North Vermillion's record now sits at 14-6. As for Riverton Parke, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.

North Vermillion has already played their next matchup, a 63-60 victory against Benton Central on the 15th. As for Riverton Parke, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers face off against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverton Parke is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.
