The dominant performance also gave Lazich a new career-high in hits (three). Walled Lake Western always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when South Lyon faced off against South Lyon East on Saturday. The Lions blew past the Cougars 10-3. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Luke Stevens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Stevens was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other pitching news, South Lyon got a great performance from Holden Terry as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Terry has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Gavin Crowley was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Braden Fox was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
South Lyon's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Walled Lake Western, their record now sits at 9-5-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Walled Lake Western has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Lyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Walled Lake Western suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to South Lyon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
