Soccer Game Preview: Needville vs. Sweeny

Needville is a perfect 7-0 against Sweeny since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Needville Bluejays will host the Sweeny Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. Needville's last five matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Needville is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Columbia on Thursday. Needville fell just short of Columbia by a score of 1-0. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bluejays came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Roughnecks are ranked 472nd).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sweeny). They never let La Marque get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Thursday. The score was close at the half, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half with three goals.

Sweeny's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Needville, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.

Needville beat Sweeny 4-2 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Needville repeat their success, or does Sweeny have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
