Football Recap: Caldwell Comes Up Short

Caldwell entered their game against La Grange on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Hornets lost 48-27 to the Leopards. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hornets of the 52-35 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Caldwell lost, don't look at Coy Becka. Despite the final result, he rushed for 222 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Becka's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.

Even if they lost, Caldwell's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Rj Gonzales was especially locked on to La Grange's QB and sacked him twice.

La Grange's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eli Gillum, who rushed for 273 yards and three scores while picking up 12.4 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Gillum a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dillan Johnson, who rushed for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries.

Caldwell now has a losing record of 3-4-1. As for La Grange, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-4 record.

Caldwell has already played their next contest, a 72-12 loss against Sealy on the 31st. As for La Grange, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 66-42 win against Giddings on the 31st.
