Basketball Game Preview: Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats vs. Oakesdale Nighthawks

Having just played yesterday, the Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Oakesdale Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 66 points on Saturday, they were much more limited against Almira-Coulee-Hartline on Tuesday. They received a blow as they fell 43-24 to the Warriors. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Wilbur-Creston-Keller saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brystal Neilsen went 7 of 15 en route to 20 points and six rebounds. The match was Neilsen's third in a row with at least ten points.

Meanwhile, Oakesdale had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 63 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 48-28 win. The Nighthawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 20 points or more this season.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2. As for Oakesdale, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller came up short against Oakesdale in their previous matchup back in March, falling 57-44. Can Wilbur-Creston-Keller avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
