Football Recap: Varina's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday + How To Watch

If Varina was riding high fresh off their 62-0 takedown of Henrico last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blue Devils fell 21-14 to the Grimsley Whirlies on Friday. The game was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Blue Devils couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the loss, Varina still got an impressive performance from Kaleb Wyche, who rushed for 81 yards and one TD, and also threw for 167 yards and one touchdown.

The defeat snapped Varina's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-2 record. As for Grimsley, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.

Varina will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hanover at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Blue Devils 9.8, the Hawks 11) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Grimsley, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 43-8 win against Ragsdale on the 10th.
