The most impressive touchdown run by a Florida State quarterback this season did not come from Jameis Winston.
Earlier this fall, when members of Florida State's chapter of Beta Theta Pi organized a sorority flag football event to raise money for United Way of the Big Bend, they had little idea that in addition to supporting a great cause, they'd be bearing witness to an incredible highlight.
The finals of the tournament pitted Delta Gamma against Zeta Tau Alpha.
Delta Gamma sorority member Michelle Roque, a
former high school soccer player and
flag football quarterback at
North Broward Prep (Coconut Creek, Fla.), was sensational at the helm for Delta Gamma.
On one particular play, Roque dazzled onlookers with a run that looked better suited for Doak Stadium on Saturdays rather than recreational fields on a Thursday night.
Roque faced a blitz, and in the process of avoiding the first would-be tackler, she weaved through three other defenders with consecutive jukes. Her piece-de-resistance was her downfield spin move to shake off the final opponent in her way.
Roque's sorority was victorious, and the Beta Theta Pi fundraiser was a success, helping raise approximately $2,000.
Flag football is very popular among Florida high schools. In the 2012-13 school year, over 5,000 girls participated, according to data from the National Federation of State High School Associations, a number that represents nearly 75 percent of all female flag football players around the country.
