Softball Preview: Houston County Lions vs. Long Rebels
The Houston County Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Long Rebels at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Houston County can't be to happy about their upcoming road contest considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Thursday. They came up short against Dale County, falling 18-0. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 17 in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Long). They blew past Providence Christian 14-1 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Kaylie Joseph made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Joseph was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Long let Anna Claire Free and Ansley Watson run wild. Free scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Watson scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Watson has posted over her last seven games. Kaylie Foster was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Long always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
