Basketball Recap: Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds vs. Del Norte Tigers
After flying high against Centennial last Thursday, Sangre de Cristo came back down to earth. The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds fell 45-38 to the Del Norte Tigers on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 35-25 back in January.
Del Norte can attribute much of their success to Kingston Wilcox, who shot 83% from the field on his way to 12 points. Thanks to that strong game, Wilcox now owns an excellent 42.9% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Lashawn Trujillo, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and six steals.
Sangre de Cristo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. Del Norte has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.
Sangre de Cristo and Del Norte are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Sangre de Cristo will face off against McClave at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. McClave will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Sangre de Cristo surely won't give up without a fight. As for Del Norte, they will take on Haxtun at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Haxtun's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games.
