Softball Recap: Hesperia Comes Up Short

Hesperia had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it six. They lost 13-2 to the Shelby Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-0 defeat back in April.

As for Shelby, their record now sits at 8-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

For Shelby's part, Jordan Wolting made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave Wolting a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayna Burmeister, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Stella Springer was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Hesperia will challenge Fremont at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Shelby will be paying especially close attention to the Panthers' game: after the Panthers face off against the Packers, they'll take on Shelby again at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
