Baseball Recap: Bigelow Has No Trouble Against Mt. Vernon-Enola

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Booneville, Bigelow was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Mt. Vernon-Enola Warhawks with a sharp 15-2 win. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.

Arturo Cabrera made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake Berry, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Guy Starks, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Bigelow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.

Bigelow's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Mt. Vernon-Enola, their record now sits at 2-7.

Bigelow and Mt. Vernon-Enola could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arkansas Rankings. The Panthers will challenge Woodlawn at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (150 vs. 29). Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon-Enola (ranked 207th) will meet Conway Christian (ranked 36th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
