Softball Recap: Haslett Takes a Loss

Haslett had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-5 to make it five. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fowlerville Gladiators. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 6-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Payden Whitmore made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Lainey Lafargue, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Fowlerville, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On Fowlerville's side, the team relied heavily on Tommi Kleinschmidt, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits Kleinschmidt has posted since back in May of 2024. Michaela Gulledge was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Haslett will challenge Grand Ledge at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Comets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fowlerville, they will take on East Lansing at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.88 runs per game on average), something the Gladiators will no doubt try to take advantage of.
