Baseball Recap: Washington Makes It Eight in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Washington, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Woodward Boomers a 1-0 shutout on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since March 18th.

Jonathen Montoya tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Washington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was LD Vinzant, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Washington's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Woodward, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will venture away from home to take on Calumet at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Woodward, they will head out to challenge Bishop McGuinness at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
