The Laguna Beach Breakers will head out to square off against the University Trojans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Laguna Beach has three straight victories, University has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Laguna Beach made easy work of Portola and carried off a 10-1 win.

Becker Sybirski made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Parker Moore and Lincoln Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Moore went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Adams got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those five RBI gave Moore a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Otis Boultinghouse, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Laguna Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portola only managed two hits.

Meanwhile, University didn't have quite enough to beat Northwood on Friday and fell 2-1.

Andrew Shean was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. University is 6-3 when Shean allows two or fewer earned runs, but 6-9 otherwise.

At the plate, University saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Wu, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Laguna Beach's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for University, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.

Laguna Beach took their victory against University in their previous meeting back in April of 2017 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Breakers repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
