Softball Game Preview: South Newton Rebels vs. Benton Central Bison

The South Newton Rebels will face off against the Benton Central Bison at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Benton Central took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on South Newton, who comes in off a win.

South Newton took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Milford, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rebels had just enough and edged out the Bearcats 6-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rebels.

Briley Iseminger made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Cora Groover was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Another player making a difference was Lizzie Corbett, who scored two runs and stole two bases.

Meanwhile, Benton Central lost 18-5 to Carroll on Thursday.

Julianna Sibray made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

South Newton now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Benton Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

South Newton took their victory against Benton Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-4 score. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Bison have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
