Baseball Game Preview: Naples Golden Eagles vs. Island Coast Gators

The Naples Golden Eagles will face off against the Island Coast Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Island Coast took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Naples, who comes in off a win.

Naples barely beat Cypress Lake the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Naples never let Cypress Lake get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday. Considering the Golden Eagles have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Naples got a great performance from CHASE BAKER as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave BAKER a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Naples let NICO BLANCO and CHARLIE REIGER run wild. BLANCO scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while REIGER scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave REIGER a new career-high in hits. JACKSON MARTIN was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Naples kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Island Coast was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They fell just short of Hardee by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Gators have suffered since March 8, 2024.

Island Coast saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Jaquez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Naples and bumps their season record up to 6-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Island Coast, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

Naples suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Island Coast in their previous meeting back in February of 2019. Can Naples avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
