Softball Recap: Hampton Bays Triumphs

Hampton Bays hadn't done well against Shoreham-Wading River recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Baymen came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 8-3. This was payback for the Baymen, who suffered an 11-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Emma Grunewald made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off 11 hits. Grunewald was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Maddie Warn was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grace Drake, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Hampton Bays' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Hampton Bays has already played their next game, a 12-6 defeat against Islip on the 8th. Hopefully Shoreham-Wading River payed attention to the Baymen's match: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Baymen at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st.
