Verbum Dei Jesuit is on a six-game streak of home wins, while St. Bonaventure is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles will welcome the St. Bonaventure Seraphs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Verbum Dei Jesuit's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 14 games.
Verbum Dei Jesuit proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 52) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past South Pasadena 73-70. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since January 6th.

Verbum Dei Jesuit found their leader in sophomore Ryan Figueroa, who went 13 of 22 en route to 32 points. With that strong performance, Figueroa is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaythan Pinckney, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.
Verbum Dei Jesuit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, St. Bonaventure didn't have too much trouble with Santa Clara on Wednesday as they won 75-56. Given the Seraphs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Saints are ranked 1010th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Verbum Dei Jesuit better keep an eye on Mathew Wilson. He was instrumental in St. Bonaventure's win, going 6 for 12 to rack up 22 points in addition to six boards and four steals. Wilson's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Charlie Adams was another key player, putting up 16 points and seven rebounds.
St. Bonaventure has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.0 points over those games. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, their victory bumped their record up to 19-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Verbum Dei Jesuit has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.9 boards per game. However, it's not like St. Bonaventure struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
