Basketball Recap: Janiyah Jackson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bowman Academy over Marquette Catholic

Bowman Academy and Marquette Catholic squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Bowman Academy had to settle for second. They came up short against the Marquette Catholic Blazers, falling 55-33. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Blazers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Janiyah Jackson, who posted seven points and seven boards. Kahlen Robinson was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Bowman Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Laniah Davis, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards for Marquette Catholic. What's more, Davis also racked up seven steals, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Natalie Robinson, who earned four points and six steals.

Bowman Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Marquette Catholic, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.

Bowman Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marquette Catholic, they will take on Westville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westville will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Marquette Catholic surely won't give up without a fight.
