Basketball Recap: Mecklenburg County Takes a Loss

Mecklenburg County lost a heartbreaker to George Washington when they met back in January, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. The Mecklenburg County Phoenix received a blow as they fell 72-56 to the George Washington Eagles. That makes it the first time this season the Phoenix have let down their home crowd.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mecklenburg County fell to 3-1. As for George Washington, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mecklenburg County will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Jefferson Forest at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for George Washington, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Fleming at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. George Washington knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Fleming likes a good challenge.
