Baseball Recap: Downingtown West Comes Up Short

Downingtown West fell victim to Coatesville and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Red Raiders by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that the Whippets have lost by just one run.

Alex Breitfeller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.

This is the second loss in a row for Downingtown West and nudges their season record down to 7-13. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Coatesville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 14-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Downingtown West will welcome Avon Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Whippets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Coatesville, they will host Downingtown East at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Raiders are on a seven-game streak of home wins, the Cougars a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
