Football Recap: Shelby-Rising City Starts off Right with Win over Freeman

Shelby-Rising City had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They breezed past the Freeman Falcons to the tune of 54-8 on Friday. The Huskies have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Falcons, too.

Shelby-Rising City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Eickmeier, who rushed for 164 yards and four scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Eickmeier didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles and defended one pass. Logan Lindsley was in the mix as well, providing Shelby-Rising City with two TDs.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Shelby-Rising City proved: they limited Freeman to a paltry 2.2 yards per carry. While three picked up at least four total tackles, Eickmeier stood above the rest. He rushed for 164 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Shelby-Rising City didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.8.

Looking ahead, Shelby-Rising City will be playing at home against Sandy Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Freeman, they will venture away from home to face off against Tri County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
