Basketball Recap: Briarwood Academy Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Briarwood Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Monsignor Donovan Catholic Rams by a score of 64-54. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 65-35 back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Briarwood Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mekhi Elam, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Elam's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Joseph Pickens was another key player, going 6 for 9 en route to 17 points and three steals.

Briarwood Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive contests.

Briarwood Academy's record now sits at 17-4. As for Monsignor Donovan Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Briarwood Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 60-55 victory against Edmund Burke Academy on the 4th. Monsignor Donovan Catholic has also already played their next contest, a 100-62 loss against Elbert County on the 4th.
