League recap: Ruidoso edges Robertson in nail biter

3A District 4 recap Oct. 23, 2012

Ruidoso and Robertson played the most hotly contested game in 3A District 4 this week, with Ruidoso eventually emerging with a 26-21 victory. Bryce Pompos threw for 150 yards and ran for 88 yards in the win.

Lovington made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,032 from 6,367. The advance stemmed from a 20-0 victory over the Wildcats last week.

The Warriors' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Devon Carr chipped in 91 yards. Matthew Carr helped Ruidoso's passing attack out by catching two balls for 54 yards.

Parker Johnson was the best wideout in the league this week as Ruidoso bested the Cardinals. Johnson tallied two receptions for 66 yards.

Ruidoso's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Warriors feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Pompos has thrown for 1128 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Johnson has 36 catches for 646 yards. Carr leads the league in rushing with 652 yards.

The top two teams in 3A District 4 will face off this week when first place Ruidoso takes on second place Portales. Kief Johnson's team topped Robertson last week, while Portales fell to Roswell.
