Softball Recap: Pearsall Drops Highest Score of Season Against Carrizo Springs

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pearsall). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Carrizo Springs Wildcats a 16-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Mavericks have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jesslyn Gutierrez was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kirsten Morales, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

Pearsall is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. Carrizo Springs is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Pearsall is set to face off against their familiar foe Pleasanton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Carrizo Springs will challenge rival Floresville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
